Ladakh, 'the Land of High Passes', Snowcapped peaks, clear blue skies, barren mountains with meandering rivers

The word "Ladakh" can be broken down into “la” meaning mountain passes and “dakh” meaning country. In other words, "Ladakh" means “a country of mountain passes".

Ladakh covers about 45,000 square miles (117,000 square km) and contains the Ladakh Range, which is a southeastern extension of the Karakoram Range, and the upper Indus River valley. Ladakh is one of the highest regions of the world. Its natural features consist mainly of high plains and deep valleys.

Ladakh is most famous for breathtaking landscapes, the crystal clear skies, the highest mountain passes, thrilling adventure activities, Buddhist Monasteries and festivals.About life of people in Ladakh, they traditionally lead a nomadic rustic life and are sincere and honest. About occupation of people in Ladakh, 90% of them depend on agriculture based on the Indus River for their livelihood. Their main agricultural products are barley, wheat, buckwheat, peas, rapeseed and beans.

LEH

KARGIL

Kargil is one of the two Districts of Ladakh region and is the second largest town of Ladakh and is situated roughly at equal distance(200KM) from Srinagar, Leh , Padum Zanskar and Skardo Baltistan. Kargil has always been an important trade centre in the past.

NUBRA VALLEY

Nubra lies at average altitude about 10,000 feet above sea level. The climate, of the areas being soft, soil is much fertile and the vegetation of the area is comparatively thicker than those of the other areas of Ladakh.
